I may fly a lot (over 100 flights last year alone!), but it’s not often that your girl gets to fly business class. Actually, if I’m completely honest, flying business class is a pretty rare occurrence for me. Sadly, it almost never happens due to my a) lack of coins (those full-fare tickets ain’t cheap!) and b) lack of airline status.
For this reason, I was super excited when Lufthansa invited me to attend the unveiling of their new logo and livery (plane exterior painting) redesign in Frankfurt, Germany. Because, while covering the event was meant to be the main thrust of my assignment, a huge perk was getting to fly to and from Deutschland in Lufthansa’s business class cabin.
So it was with great anticipation that I boarded my business class flight at New York’s JFK airport en route to Germany, then at Frankfurt’s International Airport on the journey back home. While I’m no aviation guru, I do know a good thing when I see it, so allow me to show you the main differences I discovered flying business class on Lufthansa from New York City to Frankfurt. Here’s my flight review!
The Seats on the Lufthansa Business Class flight
HON. EY. Honey! Flying business class on Lufthansa essentially guarantees you’ll exit the flight feeling fresh and well-rested. This is mostly attributed to the seats, which fully recline to a horizontal position in the business class cabin. While I don’t have much basis for comparison, I did love that the ones my JFK to Frankfurt leg were extra plush and wide. Furthermore, I was impressed by how much distance there was between myself and my seatmate– there was none of the typical fighting for armrest space that I’m used to when I fly economy. Storage was very abundant as well.
The plane on my Frankfurt-NYC leg was the first to carry the new Lufthansa logo, and this was seen and felt in the decor and packaging of most items onboard. In particular, I was a huge fan of the new pillows and blankets (such a sleek design) and had to stop myself from wrapping them up and stowing them into my bag, ha!
Also of note was the set of noise-cancelling Bose headphones that were allotted to each passenger in the business class cabin. Because, while I wasn’t super impressed with the entertainment offerings, these headphones enveloped my ears like warm hugs and greatly enhanced my viewing experience just the same.
The Food on the Lufthansa Business Class flight
I don’t know about you, but food is an integral part of my flying experience. I actually quite enjoy plane food in most instances, and was curious about what Lufthansa’s business class would have to offer.
As it turns out, the menu was pretty fancy on both legs, with a three course meal (appetizer, main course, and dessert) served after takeoff, and a light soup and/or salad combo served before landing. The plating and presentation was a feast for the eyes, I and enjoyed the attention to detail. My personal favourite meal was the white fish filet with curry sauce and rice. It was flavourful without being heavy.
The Service and the Swag on Lufthansa Business Class
Flying business class on any airline connotes an extra level of attention and care and this was clearly apparent on Lufthansa. With Lufthansa’s business class cabin being smaller and more intimate, the passenger to flight attendant ratio worked in my favour, meaning that my every whim was attended to onboard (not that I’m demanding, but…) While there was a call button, I never had to directly alert a flight attendant as they seemed to anticipate my needs even before I recognized them myself! As a language geek I also appreciated how multilingual they all were. Our attendants in business class spoke French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and even Mandarin!
The swag in business class was also pretty cool. The amenity kit, adorned with the new design, was sleek to the point that I initially thought it was someone’s purse! While all the usual products were to be found inside, they all were packaged and designed in a way that was especially visually appealing.
And so, there you have it, my Lufthansa business class flight review! Have you ever flown business class on Lufthansa or any other airline? What was your favourite part of the experience?
This business class flight review was created in partnership with the Lufthansa, but all thoughts and jealousy-inducing photos are mine.
